Consequent to federal and provincial government commitments to reduce global Green House Gas (GHG) and to provide a greener and safer environment, as well as Natural Resources Canada’s (NRCan) introduction of new standards, member companies are now exposed to an emergence of new regulations and a proliferation of new standards development in the area of energy and renewables, sustainability, environment and safety. In the context of North American harmonization, CAMA staff works closely with members, federal and provincial regulators, and other associations on the resolution of a wide variety of issues arising from these new regulatory initiatives.
CAMA is currently active on many CSA technical committees, and in addition, CAMA leverages EFC’s Codes and Standards group that participates in more than 40 strategic and technical committees within CSA Standards. EFC is also a member of the Standards Council of Canada’s Canadian National Committee to the IEC (CNC/IEC), and represents Canada on CANENA, the Council for the Harmonization of Electrotechnical Standards in the Nations of the Americas. The group is also involved in the Ontario Electrical Safety Authority’s (ESA) Industry Advisory Council and is currently a member of a government-sponsored Steering Committee that is investigating a “National Approach to Electrical Product Safety”.
EFC also partners with numerous organizations in the electrical industry that are associated with the fight against dangerous counterfeit and unsafe electrical products. EFC is a founding member of the Canadian Anti-Counterfeiting Network (CACN); a member of, and participates in, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce’s Canadian Intellectual Property Council (CIPC); a member of NEMA’s Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition and ESA’s Steering Committee for Unsafe Products; and is an associate member of the British Electrotechnical & Allied Manufacturers Association’s (BEAMA) Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition.
