Government Relations
Government relations are an important part of Electro-Federation Canada (EFC) membership. The Canadian Appliance Manufacturers Association (CAMA) is also committed to aiding the economic well-being of the appliance industry through representation beforeboth federal and provincial governments on a wide variety of issues.
Top issues include the environment and environmental legislation, energy efficiency and product standards.
Energy Efficiency
Canadian Appliance Manufacturers Association (CAMA) members understand the important role they must play to minimize the effect household appliances have on the environment. Developing, producing and marketing more energy efficient products to aid in reducing consumer energy use and harmful green house gas emissions is just one of these roles.
This position paper outlines the impact energy efficient, ENERGY STAR® rated refrigerators, clothes washers, dishwashers and freezers have on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and Canadian energy use. It encourages both provincial and federal governments to develop consumer targeted purchase incentive programs while keeping in mind the effect secondary, older products in the basement have on consumer's energy bills and the environment.

Environment
The introduction of product stewardship programs has CAMA taking a larger role before governments to address the issue of safe recycling of appliance products and packaging. CAMA members understand the important role industry participants must play to minimize the effect household appliances have on the environment, and have taken many important initiatives to support a cleaner and safer environment for Canadians.
A research paper commissioned by Natural Resources Canada and CAMA to gain a better understanding of the systems in place to manage the recovery and recycling of white goods (major home appliances) in Canada and to assess the energy savings and greenhouse gas emissions reductions attributable to white goods recycling.
CAMA has written a response to the Ministry of the Environment's posting of the draft electronic and electrical equipment regulations on the Environmental Bill of Rights.
