5th Edition of Atlantic Curling Funspiel a Sweeping Success

It was game on at the Truro Curling Club in Truro, NS on February 18 as EFC members curled and swept their way to a great day on the ice—all while supporting a good cause.
With a new venue, a refreshed committee, and a worthy charity at the heart of the annual Atlantic Curling Funspiel, this year’s edition retained the camaraderie, fun, and the spirit of friendly competition that the event is known for.
The day began with members welcoming each other and engaging in casual networking before committee chairs, Mackenzie Feindel, S&D Lighting, and Jared Brown, Graybar Canada, thanked everyone for attending and reviewed some housekeeping items and the schedule for the day. Following their remarks, a learn to curl session kicked off hosted by two volunteers (who also happen to be avid curlers – thank you Dave and Sinc!) from Ronald McDonald House Maritimes, our charitable partner of the event.
The tournament then kicked off with members joining their teams, with each of the 14 foursomes playing four, three-end games throughout the day.
After playing a couple of games, and working up an appetite, teams then broke for lunch and enjoyed a catered lunch from Van & Co. Catering that included sandwiches, charcuterie, cheese boards and grazing tables.
Following lunch, local musician Darren Howse, brought his eclectic style of soul, folk, country, and alternative rock of the 90s to 2000s to the event. In between sets, Darren paused so attendees could watch Team Canada win their quarter-final hockey match at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Christy Robson, Community Giving Specialist with Ronald McDonald House Maritimes, joined us on-site and helped manage our Reverse Draw, raising more than $1k to help families with ill or injured children stay together and near the medical care they need. Their programs include Ronald McDonald House®, a “home away from home” for out-of-town families with sick children, and two Ronald McDonald House Family Room® Programs, offering an oasis of calm and support inside the hospital. Thank you to all teams for their generous support!
