Clear Skies and a Spirit of Giving Marked the 19th Edition of EFC’s Atlantic Region Golf Tournament

It was the perfect day for golf on August 28 as 152 golfers participated in the 19th edition of the Atlantic Region Golf Tournament at the Moncton Golf Club in Riverview, NB.

The charity of choice for the region’s tournament has historically been the IWK Foundation, and this year was no different with members participating in fun contests like our Beat the Pro challenge with PGA professional Riley Zacharias and the always-popular YPN putting contest with all proceeds going to the IWK. The annual tournament is a charitable fundraiser for the children’s hospital, which provides life-changing outcomes for Maritime families who rely on the IWK.

In addition to four contest holes on course, members received a golfer’s gift upon registration, sponsored by Southwire. The tournament also featured a pre-golf networking reception, BBQ lunch, and an awards presentation and dinner following the tournament.

Before the awards presentation, Lissa Malais, Relationship Manager, NB with the IWK Foundation, took a few moments to share the impact of the IWK in the community and stress the importance of events like these to support patient care across the region.

Here are some of those impacts seen in 2023-2024:

  • Patients from the Maritimes had 312,611 IWK outpatient clinic visits
  • Patients from the Maritimes had 7,694 IWK day surgery visits, including 3,214 women and 4,480 children and youth
  • There were approximately 14,365 IWK inpatient stays
  • 4,474 infants from the Maritimes were born at the IWK
  • Children and youth from the Maritimes visited the IWK emergency department 41,732 times
  • Patients from the Maritimes had 3,165 IWK travelling clinic visits last year
