The Shawflex Award will be granted to a student who has successfully completed their second or third year of studies in any Canadian University, College or Trade school studying in a field related to the nuclear, electrical, mechanical, chemical or materials industries. Priority will be given to either a family member of a current Shawflex employee, a family member of any Shawflex Customer or any EFC member in good standing. The winning candidate may also be considered for future co-op opportunities or permanent employment with Shawflex upon completion of their studies. Shawflex will also consider academic excellence and impactful life experiences outside the classroom that demonstrate leadership, teamwork and determination such as dedication to a particular team/club, entrepreneurial projects, or giving back to the community when selecting the winner.
Students are encouraged to be creative in their application (essay, photos, video) to demonstrate their passion for a career in innovation, technology, or a skilled trade within the nuclear, electrical, mechanical, chemical or materials industries. Preference is given to a student studying topics that will contribute to our global goals of reaching net zero carbon emissions in the decades to come. Example areas of study could include “green” sustainable material or component design, Industry 4.0 manufacturing, Nanotechnology, clean power generation technologies and/or transmission distribution of power.
